Thrifting Haul - A Shippy Day

I hit up a new Goodwill this week and an old favorite store that I haven't visited in far too long. A few good finds, and one great one that I love! But I'm going to make you wait for that one!

The first ship of the day came in statue form. The Egyptian (?) man standing on the boat is some sort of metal, and the base is marble. He's old and heavy, and so far I've had absolutely no luck in finding out anything about him. But that's ok, because he's cool!

This baby brass giraffe was motherless on a shelf. But don't worry. I rescued him. He leans really far back, but somehow balances. I rotated this picture slightly so he doesn't appear to be leaning much. Before rotation it looked like I have serious angle problems with my picture taking. He's my first brass animal that's not a bird. Maybe I should start a giraffe collection too!

Of course, more wood. These are a few of my favorites from this week. A friend from church found the amazing turtle bowl. I love the leaf, but can't decide if I want to paint it or not. It's so pretty as is. I have four of the light platter and am really excited to paint them!

I couldn't resist this old needlepoint of the blue-eyed girl. It's so cute and she's holding a cat. Enough said.

I couldn't decide on these 2 wall plates right away, but now I'm really glad I brought them home. They're 3 dimensional and really cute. But they're really heavy! I'm scared to hang them for fear they'll come crashing down.

And now, my favorite find and the final ship. I spotted this at Goodwill and it was in my arms approximately a millisecond later. It's an awesome Mid Century wall hanging of a Viking ship. And it's pretty big - maybe 40" or so, hence the reason for the horribly lighted picture on my wall. Way too big for a lightbox!

I absolutely love it. I hung it up to take its picture, but it's staying up until I finally decide to part with it. Or maybe I should say, if I decide to part with it...

Have any good finds this week? Be sure to share!

  1. I LOVE the ship. The Egyptian guy is a souvenir from Egypt from maybe the mid eighties. My dad was in the Navy and visited Egypt on his tour and scooped up a couple of souvenirs that looked just like that one while he was there along with some paintings on papyrus. When we studied Egypt in school I'd bring them to class :) They used to fascinate the hell out of me, I have fond memories of staring at them.

  2. Thank you so much for telling me what he is!!! I was searching every possible thing I could think of to find out about him and had absolutely no luck! I was about to give up!
And I love the ship too. I regret putting it on my wall to take a picture because now I don't want to ever take it down! :)

  3. I really like the baby giraffe and your boat. You have a really good eye.

Such great finds! That ship is really SO COOL! And of course I am a sucker for a brass animal, so I'm loving that giraffe!

  5. I love brass animals and so far have been able to resist bringing them home. But after seeing your giraffe, it's only a matter of time before another collection begins to take over my house :-)

  6. Thanks, Anny! I took the baby giraffe to my booth today. I have to admit, I was a little sad!

  7. Thank you Heather! I'm in love with that ship! It's on my wall now and may never come down to sell!

  8. I'm amazed that you can resist! I seriously have a problem. If they're reasonably priced, they're in my basket in a split second! :)

  9. Thank you Jeanne! It was a fun thrifting week for sure!
